Out Of Print... Dear Merv...Dear Bill is fictional only in format. The events it describes happened, and are based, almost verbatim at times, on accounts, diaries and letters written during the years 1939-41. Dear Merv...Dear Bill is an exchange of letters between two South-East London boys. Merv is first evacuated to Deal and then later to a large country house in South Wales. Bill remains in London and goes through the Blitz. Dear Merv...Dear Bill is a book of contrasts-between the peace of rual Wales and the violence of London during the Blitz, its characters, anecdotes and events tell of a world gone forever but its glimpses of boyhood as true now as they were then. At times moving, at others funny, it is the story of two ordinary boys caught up in extaordinary events-making discoveries about themselves, their families and the war that is going on around them. As such it is an authentic social document as well as a good read. A book for all ages.
