Margaret Tylers contribution to the present-day concept of classical homoeopathy in the UK is too readily overlooked but deserves unhesitating recognition. Born in 1857, living until 21 June 1943 and working for forty years at the London Homoepathic Hospital until the day before her death, she stands alongside J H Clarke (of Dictionary fame) as a bridge between the more material dosing of physical disorders that held sway in the UK towards the end of the nineteenth century and the constitutional prescribing that became commonplace in this country in the last quarter of the twentieth century. This tradition of prescribing according to the teaching of J T Kent is so well established now that it is hard to realise that it was not always the norm.
