Description

Out Of Print... This book looks at the several phases of the problems of materials used in electronics, and brings together viewpoints on many aspects of the subject previousiy individually covered in specialised publications and writings. Its therefore more a survey of information than a comprehensive treatment of materials or an encyclopaedia of data on present day materials practice. The author has been associated for many years with several branches of the subject and has had to straddle, mentally, the fences between the divisions of research materials, equipment design and testing. Knowledge of a these helps to give an understanding of the reason for observed facts. He opens with a resum of the essential concepts of the nature and behaviour of materials. Next are presented a description and comparison of materials used in electronics and microelectronics, sufficiently specific to aid the production engineer or the design engineer in making a choice. Following this, the practices in application of materials to the major types of components are described. In the usual sources on the design and construction of equipment, the subject of materials is very sketchily covered, if at all, and yet some of the most difficult problems in design and reliability often lie in the use of materials. The final chapter covers the purpose of testing materials.
