Description

Out Of Print... The Student Handbook A directory of courses and institutions in 12 countries Compiled once more by an expert team including representatives from each European Community country, the heavily revised sixth edition of this book makes a timely appearance in the runup to 1992 and the creation of a Europe without frontiers. It looks at the higher education systems throughout the Community and is expressly designed to respond to the information needs of growing numbers of students who, encouraged by their teachers and careers advisers set their sights beyond their national boundaries. The directory begins with 12 chapters, each devoted to a single country. Each chapter normally provides information on: the structure of the higher education system the institutions and the qualifications they offer admission requirements, applications and tuition fees scholarships and grants entry and residence regulations social aspects-health insurance, accommodation, advisory services, etc. The appendices to each national entry contain lists of addresses of organizations and institutions from which further information and/or application forms may be obtained, a tabular survey of courses run at each institution, a bibliography of national information materials and a glossary of terms that have not been translated. The appendices are completed with a feature new to this edition: complete diagrammatic presentations of the educational systems of each country. After further chapters describing the study facilities offered by the European University Institute, Florence, and the College of Europe, Bruges, this edition is completed by substantially new material on Community programmes and Community-inspired facilities. The Erasmus programme for the mobility of university students is described, and the grant application procedures are explained. Comett-the programme for cooperation between universities and enterprises in technological training-is introduced. Lingua-the programme for the teaching and learning of foreign languages-is briefly presented. Finally, the names and addresses are given of the organizations forming the European Community network of national academic recognition centres (NARIC), and their decisionmaking powers and procedures are summarized.
