Description

Out Of Print... This collection of sea-faring short stories is a blend o humorous, historical, magical and mysterious tales of sea-captains, sailors and ships. The splash of ocean waves, the curling mists over the horizon and the difficult-although often entertaining! lives of seamen, past and present real and imagined are captured in these lively stories, all with a distinctive Welsh flavour. If you enjoy a good story then this is a book which will be sure to please as, in the hands of a master at spinning a yarn, you relax in the sound of the sea. Captain Bernard Edwards, born at Newport, Gwent, has a family background which includes several generations of master mariners originating in West Wales. He is a great-great grandson of Captain Evan Jones the seaman/missionary who in his sailing ship The Gipsy carried Bibles to the unconverted of Madagascar in 1853. His own seagoing career, which began in 1944 at the age of 17, was spent largely in Indian Ocean waters. He regrets never having set foot on that great island on whose shores his intrepid ancestor landed with gun in one hand and Bible in the other. He left the sea in 1984, not to retire, but to take up a new career as a writer. This is his first book.
