The Americans are advancing but lorry-loads of prisoners are still being sent to the gaschambers. Certain useful men are to be saved and it is Baniczas job to give these chosen few their instructions. The terrible dilemma of whom to save and whom to condemn and how to live with the decision afterwards is the central theme of this stark and deceptively simple story.
