Bargaining For Change

This is a wide-angle view of the productivity bargaining movement, its significance for and contribution to the general development of British industrial relations. The effects of productivity bargaining on the participants and institutions involved are studied from a mult-disciplinary base. This is, therefore, a unique and comprehensive review of the most important development in industrial relations in the last twenty-five years prior to the Industrial Relations Act, which sets the tone for that Act and will govern many of its consequences. The productivity bargaining era seems to have left an important legacy of commitment to change. The roots and directions of this mood of change are here set out and studied in a form that will attract both the student and the practitioner. Two of the volume editors are also joint editors of the lndustrial Relations Journal and from this vantage point have engaged contributors whose work is of the most outstanding and far-sighted in the field.
